Question:

    I need to read UNIX TAR format magtapes on a VAX/VMS system.

    Back in 1986, one of the DECUS tapes had a program called [.CMISC]UNTAR.C
that reads UNIX TAR files. The disadvantage of this program is that one needs
to first read the raw TAR file from the magtape, treating it as a non-file
structured tape. If disk space is tight, having two copies of things can be
a real problem.

Does anyone know of a better way?
