However, I am on a budget, so am going to have to buy it mail order in order to afford a decent capacity. I will soon have a GVP controller (for a 2000, natch), so I am looking for a SCSI drive of some sort. I would like at least 30-40M, and anything but Seagate (after all the bad things I've heard about Seagate drives not spinning up). (Testimonials from Seagate owners about how wonderful their drives are gladly accepted.) Price range is on the low end of $400-$500. 5 1/4" or 3 1/2" is not especially important--I have one bay of each size free (unless someone can tell me why I should leave any particular size bay open) (the GVP has the memory option, so can't be used as a hard card). Speed is not especially important as long as the drive is not a slug (of course, I want fast, but unfortunately budget and availability come first). My big problem is where to find this type of SCSI drive that isn't a Seagate. Computer Shopper has a dearth of non-Seagate SCSI drives. Transactor and Amiga Whirled advertisers seem to mostly advertise packages, not bare drives. My ideal choice would be the Quantum 40Q, but who sells them, and can I afford one? Any suggestions for what to buy and especially where to buy it will be greatly appreciated. [Finally, any comments on mounting one of the ST506<-->SCSI adapters in a 2000? That is an option that I might consider.] ------------ Andrew Heybey, atheybey@ptt.lcs.mit.edu, uunet!ptt.lcs.mit.edu!atheybey MIT Laboratory for Computer Science Room 509, 545 Technology Square, Cambridge, MA 02139 (617) 253-6011
