I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get VGIF to work with my Everex VGA
card in the 640x400x256, 640x350x256, and 800x600x16 modes.  Has anyone
had any luck with this?  The best I've managed is 640x400 with the entire
picture being written over itself in the upper fourth of the screen.
