IBM PS/2 model 80 vs Compaq 386 for file server Message-ID: <12212@umn-cs.CS.UMN.EDU> Date: 21 Apr 89 03:36:33 GMT Reply-To: swie@umn-cs.cs.umn.edu (Swie Tsing Tan) Distribution: usa Organization: CSci Dept., University of Minnesota, Mpls. Lines: 12 I need some advice to choose either IBM PS/2 Model 80 with 300 Mb harddisk or Compaq 386 (25Mhz) with 300 Mb harddisk, for a file server which will be running under Novell O.S. Most (all) magazines say that Compaq 386 outperforms IBM PS/2 model 80 (beside that Compaq has higher clock rate). Could you please tell me : - which one is more reliable ? - have you ever used it ? - which company can give the lowest price ? - what is the best network adapter card for ethernet connection ? Thanks in advance for your help. swie.
