Boy, am I glad you asked! While not one of the authors, I am the Usenet "contact" for them. I sent the sources, as requested, to the last author listed in the compress 4.0 doc file. He said he would prefer to be the distributor. However, he has neither distributed nor responded to any of my email. I will be happy to post the sources to comp.unix.source if that does not mean stepping on anyone's toes. The sources include MSDOS-specific configurations, so that the same source package can be compiled on a great variety of computers. This was the goal of the 4.3 authors. Please email your opinions.
