Does anyone know how to trap ioctl(2) calls made from the slave side 
of a pty, in a program running on the control side. I've read about
the select(2) call but there seems to be no support for execptions on
pty's.

I have a program running fine reading and writing data on the control-side,
but when a login-shell on the slave side uses 'stty' I get garbage across to
the control-side, and the system seems to hang for a few seconds.

What am I doing wrong here ?
