You must turn magnification off, leave CloseView on, and turn in "white-on-black" mode. It will also reverse colors on a Mac II (my green desktop appears pink). I haven't checked whether it will turn on magnification automatically upon startup (it might, you know) but if it's properly written (ie Human Intf Guidelines and not chang- ing stuff behind the user's back) magnification should remain off until you specifically turn it on.
