Our yp domainname is +nprdc.navy.mil, to utilize the $m macro in sendmail. When we tried to install a 386i (sunos 4.0.1) as a ypclient, it balked at the ypdomain name. My guess is that it didn't like either the + or the .'s, but unfortunately I didn't take the time to experiment. To get around the problem, I temporarily created another yp domain, trcf, using the same files as for +nprdc.navy.mil. I did this by creating a symbolic link from trcf to +nprdc.navy.mil in /var/yp on the sun4s. That allowed me to install the 386i, afterwhich I edited its net.conf file to set its domainname to +nprdc.navy.mil. It rebooted without complaint, and seems to be happily in +nprdc.navy.mil.
