We would > appreciate information about both graphics and text scanners and software > to work with them. We just bought a Chinon DS2000 scanner. It's a plain jane -- no bells and whistles -- but it works real well. Some features: * 100, 120, 150, & 200 dpi settings * text or graphics * has a serial interface -- or a parallel for dumping right to a printer * all configuration is software-settable -- like resolution, data compression, scanning area, contrast, and others It's a camera-based, one-dimensional CCD unit. The camera is a head that scans a flat surface using a rotating mirror. Like I said, it's not top-o-the-line, but it works well for us. The DS3000 scans at 300 dpi, but is much the same elsewhere. An example of a scanned image can be FTD'd anonymously from smaug.cs.hope.edu (35.197.146.1) as "~ftp/pub/raster/attack.Z". I use this as a background image for SunView. I wrote a SunView tool to drive the scanner. You are welcome to that if you want. If you're interested in more info, let me know. -- Mike Mike Jipping Internet: jipping@cs.hope.edu Hope College BITNET: JIPPING@HOPE Department of Computer Science Voice: Hey!
