ok, after reading all the responses it appears that i have a special version
with stripped down roms or something that will only work with an HP250. does
anyone know where i can get tech info (internal memory map, etc.) for the
2622 so i can save myself the time guessing at where everything is?

any leads as to the hardware reference would be appreciated.
