Keywords: Windows Smartdrv, memory I have been plagued by this problem for quite a while: I use an AST Rampage Message-ID: <42e2da88.1029d@aspen.engin.umich.edu> Date: 27 Apr 89 17:27:00 GMT References: <25310@amdcad.AMD.COM> <11424@well.UUCP> Reply-To: sbdx@caen.engin.umich.edu (Ronggang Zhang) Followup-To: comp.sys.ibm.pc Organization: caen. Lines: 10 is used to back fill my system from 512K to 640K. The remaining 386K is used via Windows Smartdrv.sys to speed up the hard disk read/write. So at bootup time, the system has 640K conventional memory and 0K free expanded memory. The system is speeded up considerably for all applications including Windows. But if I use Windows for a while and exit from it, the system becomes incredibly slow, even slower than the system would perform without any memory expansion. I have an utility program to check memory allocations so I run it after I exit from Windows. I find that every time I enter Windows and exit, some memory is freed. This is true even if I just enter it and exit without running any programs. Could someone give me a hand? I really appreciate it.
