I remember reading somewhere that there was a dramatic decrease in American highway automobile accidents (or was it deaths?) when the highway speed limit was reduced to 55 mph. Can anyone confirm? North American roads are not designed for very high-speed traffic. Curves are too sharp, on/offramps are too short, grades are too steep, warning signs are too close to what they signify... The 401 is NOT designed like a German Autobahn (or so my uncle, who has driven in Germany, tells me). So: It just might be much safer to keep to a generally conservative speed limit. >Stanley Chow ..!utgpu!bnr-vpa!bnr-fos!show%bnr-public -- John DiMarco * We will live in the light * jdd%db.toronto.edu@relay.cs.net jdd@db.toronto.edu jdd@db.utoronto.ca jdd@db.toronto.cdn {uunet!utai, watmath!utai, decvax!utcsri, decwrl!utcsri}!db!jdd jdd@utcsri.UUCP
