I know this must have been answered many times, just like the equivalent
question in the mac groups where I have been active for years.

But I just got my first IBM-style machine, and I don't quite know what
to do with the things I have been seeing in the binary groups.  I can
make floppies on my UNIX machine, so moving text is no trouble, but how
do I turn these babies into binary .EXE files or whatever?  Also, where
do I find the things that speak .ARC?

I just need a bit of help to get self-sufficient.
