A document entitled ``Release 2.2 overview'' is included in the documentation for release 2.2. From what Mr. Jellinghaus writes it seems a good idea to post a (perhaps abbreviated) version of that document here. This will be done as soon as the release is ready for shipping. By the way, 2.2 will be a few weeks late. We should be shipping before May 15. Sorry. A complete language description is in preparation under the title ``Eiffel: The Language and Environment'', to be published at the end of this year by Prentice-Hall International. This book will be devoted to Eiffel itself, not to the underlying method, and will provide a more precise specification than can be inferred from OOSC. The publication of both ETLE and a new edition of OOSC will be timed to coincide with the release of version 3. There will be a posting about version 3 (with requests for comments) in this news group as soon as we are through with 2.2. I view Version 3 as the final one with respect to the language - the tools and libraries being of course another story. -- -- Bertrand Meyer bertrand@eiffel.com
