That is, even if copy = ON and savename = ON in your elmrc, a copy of the outgoing message was saved by name only if the folder preexisted. Elm 2.2 PL 0 changed that a bit. The save-by-name was not conditional, but you could change your mind about where to save a copy at runtime via the new 'c' option of the "send" menu. There were some complaints about this change. To restore the old functionality (conditional save-by-name) and keep the new functionality (unconditional save-by-name) it was necessary to add another elmrc option: forcename. If forcename = OFF, save-by-name will be conditional on the preexistence of the folder; if on, unconditional. Under ELM 2.2PL0, there was a special name you could enter for the folder prompt under the 'c' option of the send menu, namely "=", to mean "save by name" (whatever the logname of the first address winds up being). With patch 5, this was replaced with two special names: "=" now means unconditionally save-by-name, while "=?" means conditionally save-by-name. For more information see, in the Reference Guide, the explanation of copy, forcename, and savename in the elmrc section, and also the explanation of the send menu in the commands section. -- Rob Bernardo, Pacific Bell UNIX/C Reusable Code Library Email: ...![backbone]!pacbell!pbhyf!rob OR rob@pbhyf.PacBell.COM Office: (415) 823-2417 Room 4E850O San Ramon Valley Administrative Center Residence: (415) 827-4301 R Bar JB, Concord, California
