Does anyone know what impact the airport security systems can have on ? a portable computer? ? ? In particular: CAN the metals detectors harm microcircuits? How about the ? xray machine... can zapping a laptop hurt it? Does the answer change if the ? laptop has, say, an internal hard disk? ? Well, I don't have an answer for you, but I've always made it apolicy to pass tapes & disks across the table rather than go thru the x-ray machine. I've never been forced to send my Compaq lunchbox 286 or Zenith laptop thru the x-ray either, but I'v always been required to power them up. These days the security policies may be much more strict (I've read that there may be a ban for a while) but I'll be glad to let them open up my machine as long as they agree to be responsible for any damage.
