But the kicker is that the check is only redeemable on the bank on which it is drawn. Anything which goes through the Federal Reserve clearing house has to be MICR encoded and must meet certain size criteria. Don't try to pay taxes with a check maid out on the back of a jelly jar label -- it'll just jam the machinery! -- Mike Eager
