BUT everybody knows why Presentation is there (where everybody = all Old Network Boys, who, because they understand both Telnet and how the NVT notion was used in FTP, readily grok doing virtualization/ devirtualization in a modular fashion, even if they don't think it should be a mandatorily separate layer that mechanizes it [and given things like the Common ASE, neither, apparently, do some key New Network Kids]). The real Mystery--mayhap the Sin Against the Holy Spirit (of Layering, i.e.)-- is still Session ... unless the story that "there were some guys left over who needed a committee" is true, in which case Sloth, Avarice, Gluttony, and probably others all apply. cheers, map -------
