No, that's not to imply that 1.4 will have built-in virtual memory, or that 1.4 will be out by the end of the year. I'm just predicting, based on what I know about MMU's, the Amiga OS, and all, that a virtual memory manager will be available in some form by year's end. Someone's already done one for the Mac, and it didn't require an OS revision. Similarly, I believe such a memory manager would work under the current Amiga OS. Virtual memory doesn't imply protected memory, however, and in fact, while I think I know how a virtual memory manager would work, I'm not sure it would be feasible to add-on memory protection -- that may have to be part of a new OS release to work correctly. Though I do know of people who've played with the idea.... > -- Marco Papa 'Doc' > -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= > uucp:...!pollux!papa BIX:papa ARPAnet:pollux!papa@oberon.usc.edu > "There's Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Diga!" -- Leo Schwab [quoting Rick Unland] > -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -- Dave Haynie "The 32 Bit Guy" Commodore-Amiga "The Crew That Never Rests" {uunet|pyramid|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh PLINK: D-DAVE H BIX: hazy Amiga -- It's not just a job, it's an obsession
