Regarding the relative speeds of the DeskJet and DeskJet+, I have a
both of them in my office and can report that while the Plus is 
visibly faster, it is also more obvious that the Mac cannot, through
the serial port, push data at it fast enough for that speed improvement
to be fully realized.  That is, I get performance of a ~2 second burst
of very fast printing, then ~5 seconds of collecting data for the next
pass at the printer.

I have it hooked up at 19,200 and have tried both the Orange Micro
Grappler and the DataPak Printer Interface III programs with the 
same results.

Ironically, I believe that I received my evaluation DeskJet+ before
any of the Mac printer driver companies did; more than one, upon 
hearing that I have the Plus, asked me to test their program against
it for them...
