I am interested in exploring whether or not I can count on using PEX soon.

What exactly is the status of PEX?  Is PEX currently instantiated only as a
set of documents describing some future implementation effort?  Is someone
actually implementing PEX now?  Are prototype PEX system software packages
available now?  Will PEX ever be released into the public domain, shareware,
or extremely low cost educational marketplace?
