I think rec.climb would be a good name. At this point I don't know if there are many climbers on the UUCP, though I have heard rumors that some aging climbers are moving out of their VW vans and into computer related careers. Aside from providing a way for aficionados to meet and plan climbs, it would provide a handy forum for discussions on ethics of ascent and approach. In the forefront of concern.. There are groups forming expeditions for cleanup operations at the incredibly trashed out high camps of the Himalayas. Access to climbing areas throughout the USA continues to present a problem. There are many climbing areas on private land that are now closed to climbers because of ownership change, attitude change (sometimes caused by climber's inconsiderate behaviour), or liability concerns. These concerns may be more effectively addressed if the climbers w/ UUCP access served as 'gateways' for interested parties whom are not able to access UUCP. Or we could simply use the group as a place for climbing computer professionals to chit-chat (which isn't a bad idea either). ~~~( ~~~~ ~~~~ Jim Morrison ... morrisj@mist.cs.orst.edu ~~~~~~
