Most of the heavyweight engineering codes I know of are written in FORTRAN, as well. ANSYS, NASTRAN, GAUSSIAN 8x, are all written in FORTRAN. Anything having to do with supercomputers is likely written in FORTRAN (hell, I know of one supercomputer *operating system* which is written in a dialect of FORTRAN). I'm not sure whether this is responsive to your question or not but FORTRAN is still quite alive and kicking out in the "real" (or perhaps double precision :-) world!
