Message-ID: <6fVF02FW25JX01@amdahl.uts.amdahl.com> Date: 12 May 89 23:18:16 GMT Organization: Amdahl Corporation, Sunnyvale CA Lines: 24 I have a friend who is putting together a plan to convert a fairly large s/w development project (50+ people) from a centralized IBM VM/SP mainframe environment to a distributed workstation one. The first step is probably to replace the current 3270-style dumb terminals with intelligent workstations. These can later be connected together via a LAN, using the mainframe as a file server, and providing some sophisticated CASE tools. The plan will probably include converting the package under development from Assembler to a high-level language. Can anyone suggest suitable hardware/software combinations which will make the first step as painless as possible?? That is, what workstations/packages do a reasonable job at 3270 terminal emulation? Mail any responses to me at [..decwrl,sun,..]!amdahl!johnm . I'll be happy to pass them along, and post a summary to the comp.software-eng. Thanks, - John Murray, Amdahl Corp. (My own opinions, etc.)
