If I remember my ECE Midi Interface correctly,
the blue ribbon cable with the RS-232 connector already attached
is supposed to connect to the A1000.  That cable carries all the
signals that the interface requires.  Like others have suggested:
get rid of the extra cable between the A1000 and the ECE's connector.

Of course, if they have changed their box, then this is all wrong
for you :-(
