        I have an 8-bit 8 Khz DAC0830 D/A converter connected to my
IBM PC and would like to implement text-to-speech capability
without adding more hardware.  I understand that text-to-speech can
be done with software and would like to know if anyone knows of
source code available to the public on this subject.  I know of two
programs that are now in the public domain that perform
text-to-speech using the PC's speeker as the output device - these
programs are listed below.

Most of the text-to-speech rules used in the tran program come from
an article in an IEEE journal:
