I have an ancient IBM PC and am currently using a Migent (1200 baud) external modem. Questions: 1. What are the advantages of an internal modem apart from the convenience of having no extra wires etc. Are they more / less reliable than external modems ? 2. Is there any advantage to getting an error correcting modem. There seems to be a substantial price difference. 3. I wonder if there is a recent survey article out there in some magazine about the current crop of modems. 4. I am told that there is a new chip set which has reduced the chip count needed to make a modem. Does someone know about the new modems which use this chip set ? Reply by e-mail to gupta@bach.csg.uiuc.edu@uxc.cso.uiuc.edu I will summarize the responses. Aloke Gupta
