  What our public MacLab here has done is just use a Startup Screen,
composed well enough to catch the eye.  For that matter, they then use
backdrop to keep the screen as the Desktop.  The screen is covered with
important novice tips, like: "DRAG YOUR DISK TO THE TRASH WHEN DONE!".
Seems to work like a charm -- they've been doing it for a year now.
