A Mac Plus or SE will display the contents of a file called StartupScreen at startup time, but I don't think it takes a MacPaint format file... there's a program out there somewhere called ScreenMaker that produces files of the appropriate format. On a Mac II, the StartupScreen file should contain a PICT resource of ID=0, and this will be displayed at startup. The PICT can be in color or greyscale, but should not have a custom CLUT (color look-up table), since the Mac doesn't load the CLUT for the startup picture. I have no idea which of these is appropriate for an SE/30, but I assume the PICT version is correct for a IIx or IIcx. -- Mark H.
