It's not really broken, there's a dialog item that partially covers it in
Word's OPEN... dialog.  You might notice that if you click near the right edge
of the dialog you can bring the Boomerang pop-up menu to the top.

The way to fix it is to go in with ResEdit (on a backup, of course)
and tweak the OPEN... dialog.
