I ran it on a system from unlocked copy of this same distribution, and
it crashed the system with an unknown error (the bomb window was there,
but it was completely blank!).  I was able to get it to run when I
took Preditor from a floppy as well.

Hmm.  Maybe it's copy protected ;-) (yes, I'm joking... OK!?!?!?!)
