My understanding is that current applications will not break, but current
printer drivers will.  However, as was pointed out at the conference, not
only will the writing of third party print drivers be supported but the
development time should be greatly reduced.  I believe they gave times
in hours and days (rather than months and years).  I think the Printshop
mentioned an in-house record of developing a prototype driver for the
new architecture of 30 minutes (yes, minutes).  Of course, your mileage may
vary.
