Regarding Poehlmann's problem:
   One has to have the right loopback number in the right place in the file
/etc/hosts,  or one can get locked out of 4-sight in just this way.  In our
version of that file, the FIRST entry that is not a comment must be
127.1  localhost
I'm afraid I don't know if this number must be the same from machine to machine,
but you should have it correct in the old version of your operating system - and
I see no reason why this number should change between revisions.  Good luck.
