Stokely (celeste@coherent.com) mentions her "1 poor, tired cheapernet", and says they will soon "be going to thick ethernet". There is no difference in performance between thick and thin ethernet. Simply replacing a thin cable with a thick one + tranceivers will not make any difference in performance, unless you are exceeding the maximum distance and/or the number of stations allowed on a thin segment, in which case you might see a reduction in errors and collisions. Stokely also says they will be splitting into two nets. That will probably make a noticable difference.
