Thanx to all those that e-mailed me a reply to my query.  I didn't flush
the output (in a brilliant fit of naivete, I assumed that XMapWindow did
that).  After hours of searching, I finally found a couple of X books in
a remote corner of Rockville.  I'm going to read them before opening my
big mouth with more questions.  (Forgot the most simple of axioms --
RTFM).
