The block coding problem consists of three parts: encoding, detection and decoding. o Encoding: Conversion of data to be transmitted in coordinates of a lattice point. o Detection: Conversion of the received coordinates into those of the nearest lattice point. o Decoding: Further conversion of the received data. This talk will review the fundamental principles of block coding and will describe two examples of the use of this technique: the 8-dimensional Gosset lattice, and the 24-dimensional Leech lattice, A24.
