They come in standard 2K X 8 and 8K X 8 packages with built in long life lithium cells. I have used a version that is a 2K X 8 chip with the last 8 bytes dedicated to a built in real-time clock. It has worked flawlessly for several years and the battery is only drained when the power is off. They offer a special low power mode for storage.
