Huntsville, AL Lines: 16 Does anyone know of a device that has FDDI-multimode compatible I/O on one side and any type of singlemode I/O on the other? The application: we need to put some FDDI/Ethernet bridges 5 km apart. That is pushing multimode a bit, so .. the need to convert to singlemode and then back on the other end. Fibronix has such a device in their literature, but it "is still in development." I got the literature in February or so - can you say "early announcement." Another company is going to have a singlemode interface for their box, but it will be a while. Can anyone help? While on the subject of electro-optics - what is so special about the FDDI optical tx/rx.It doesn't seem like 125 Mbaud is that incredibly fast. What is it that requires "FDDI" optics? Why won't others do? tony goodloe ...uunet!ingr!b11!goodloe
