The Abekas A6x series machines store up to 100 seconds of NTSC/PAL video on SCSI disks. You can download images into an A60 via ethernet (or as component or composite analog or digital video) and play them back at 30 fps. It's an essential tool for rendering, where you can't generate the images as fast as you want to play them back. You can also control the A60 via ethernet. It speaks TCP/IP (telnet/ftp/rlogin/rcp) and someone has even written a SunView interface to control it. Abekas has a uucp connection (pyramid!abekas), but does not receive USENET. They usually exhibit at SIGGRAPH and were at USENIX last summer, too. -- Anthony Stone NBC Computer Imaging, New York, NY stone@nbc1.ge.com 212-664-2206
