Are you sure you don't mean Data General rather than Prime? The
description sounds a lot like the book _The Soul of a New Machine_.
I think the author's name was Tracy Kidder or something close to that, and
it was about the politics, the human stories, and some of the technology in
bringing out a new DG machine.
