A recent article in the Christian Science Monitor highlighted FSF. Besides being available for anonymous FTP from a bunch of places, the software is in fact available on magnetic taes for "a nominal tape duplication fee" of about 150-200 dollars per tape. Since most commercial sites would just as soon have a tape to put in their archive, and this is indeed a nominal cost, they ship enough of these tapes to cover the cost of about 2 staff people. Stallman himself works for free about 9 months of the year, takes three off and worjs two of these as a consultant to pay for his living expenses. MIT picks up the rent for the "office", a hallway at MIT_AI. And computer manufacturers are lining up to donate equipment. Sometimes they are turned away, as when they want RMS to sign a non-disclosure statement. (I am sure somebody from FSF will correct me if there are serious errors in the above). / Lars Poulsen (800) 222-7308 or (805) 963-9431 ext 358 ACC Customer Service Affiliation stated for identification only My employer probably would not agree if he knew what I said !!
