It is primarily intended for use with "toasters" (scanners, printers, etc.), as opposed to mass storage devices such as disks and tapes. The adoption of /dev/scsi by UNIX vendors would greatly ease access to the UNIX market by toaster vendors, giving all of us more toys to play with. The Devscsi Project is doing a BOF at the Summer Usenix Conference. We will present a summary of the /dev/scsi interface and objectives, and give a status report on our effort to define and promulgate the standard, and on related activities (e.g., the SCSI-2 Common Access Committee). We will then open the floor for questions, comments, and presentations of alternative approaches to user-mode SCSI access. Persons who are unable to attend the BOF are invited to call, write, or email for the /dev/scsi paper: The Devscsi Project, P.O. Box 1488, Pacifica, CA 94044 USA ...!hoptoad!cfcl!rdm (415) 873-7841
