For what its worth (.00001$?), I want to go on record as enthuusiastically supporting file types (ever played with an MS/DOS system much? aarghhhhh) -- my problem with extended files is that what they intend to do can be done just fine with directories and naming conventions without needing any fundamental changes. I'll grant that the file type stuff could also have been done the same way, but that would have required too much self-policing on the part of applications developers.
