Might work better that the one I made with the HP engineer's suggestion. I was just trying to describe the problem. The modem was set for speaker ON and typing AT didn't bring a reponse of OK and the TR light didn't come on. On typing ATDT "phone number" , I couldn't hear the dialtones -> conclusion, I was no getting to the modem. Any way I called HP hotline and after 2 engineers later, the problem was a BAD Multiplexer port. I was able to get a 2400 baud modem connected and working on another port (well, kind of). Now to try the telebit. According to the first HP engineer, the telebit is not a HP supported modem and he will not answer any questions relating to it at all. But on the whole both the engineers were very helpful. I will summary my adventure to HP land after all is done if ever. Boon
