I doubt that there will be much more than line IO (No CURSES etc). So I am not to concerned with if it has Xwindows, Dosmerge, and is compliant with such and such. What I need is something that will allow multi-users accessing a common database of information that runs on a 386 machine. As far as I know, only a Unix-like OS will work. MOS-386 is a consideration, but I have zero knowledge of that (other than it is supposed to be DOS). >One other thing to consider about unix: If you aren't already familiar with >it (read that "a capable system administrator") you'd better set aside about >6 months to learn it before you allow anyone to become dependent on the >system. Unix is *not* a remake of MS-DOS, and minicomputer operating >systems are not for the timid. Well, I personally have ran a sizable VAX site (in my real job) and I know some about Unix. In other words, I can create accounts, compile programs, use VI, ls, cat, more, man, etc. I will need good documentation because when it comes to writing shell scripts and any thing other than creating an account I know little about maintaining Unix (though I have some good friends who are unix hacks to depend on.) The owner isn't that lucky. He is a relative computer novice and he will probably have to contract me to maintain the system. >Now, to answer your question, I've been using Interactive unix with VP/ix >(DOS under unix) for several months and like it very much.
