Fax: +32 91 22 85 9 Message-ID: <8905311018.AA18019@uk.ac.ox.prg> Date: 31 May 89 08:31:00 GMT Sender: daemon@ucbvax.BERKELEY.EDU Organization: The Internet Lines: 21 The conclusion seems to be that AMD is definitely not out of the 32-bit market yet, as Roger Sheperd and David Boreham (both from Inmos Bristol) replied almost immediately: Roger: this subject has come up in comp.arch. Apparently AMD have announced that Roger: they are no longer targetting the workstation market. BYTE will be carry Roger: an apology soon. (Actually this should come as no surprise, the 29K is Roger: too late and too similar in performance to enter the w/s market). David: This was actually a mis-quote. What they have done is pulled out David: of the *workstation* market (UNIX workstations). Of course this David: is not a market that INMOS have ever catered for (not yet anyway). David: The AM29000 is still, unfortunately, a major competitor to the T425. David: (Look out for a BYTE correction --- they promised to print one David: as the article caused AMD quite a bit of hassle !) Hope this clears up the 29K mis-quote. Patrick
