Before the new release, the ]permissions were read/write for everyone. On the new release, the permissions ]are read/write for owner (root), and just read for other. This seems fine ]except for the owner of the newsgroups. Why are the new directories owned ]by root? I was having similar permission problems under uucp-based news, except that it was sometimes 755 uucp or 755 news. A cron script running with Expire fixed that. Until our newsfeed went away, we ran 777-permission news directories - this has the minor disadvantage that individuals can go delete or modify articles, but it never happened, and made it easier to fix broken stuff. -- # Bill Stewart, AT&T Bell Labs 2G218 Holmdel NJ 201-949-0705 ho95c.att.com!wcs # also cloned at 201-271-4712 tarpon.att.com!wcs # ... counting stars by candle light ....
