Lines: 34 In view of the growing use of UNIX in the High Energy Phy- sics community (UNICOS on CRAY, UNIX on minisupers and workstations) a HEP UNIX User Group, nicknamed HEPNIX, has been established. Possible tasks for HEPNIX: - The specification of enhancements to UNIX to make it usable in a HEP production environment. - Contacts with standards organizations like POSIX, X- OPEN, OSF. - Collaboration with other UNIX User Groups like EUUG. - Collaboration with the DD Division of CERN to obtain versions of the CERN program library for the various UNIX flavours. - Monitoring of developments like X-WINDOWS, NeWS. - Distribution of utilities and extensions to UNIX. - UNIX network and system management. HEPNIX had its first meeting on April 3rd 1989 at CERN. A next meeting is scheduled for autumn of this year. A list- server has been set up as a medium for the exchange of infor- mation.
