  Maybe. Have you specified the cost correctly? As I recall there is
code in pathalias which avoids doing a connect between a machine with
internet style addressing and one with bang addressing. You might find
and disable this.

  I assume that if you have internet connections you are using the -l
flag to route them back to sendmail.

  We are using smail2.5 and are getting mostly the routes we expect.
