I have acquired a Shugart Associates SA1004 8" HDD and its SA1400 controller. The controller will let the HD look like an immense floppy disk, but recently unearthed documents mention that the ST506 interface is "similar" to the SA1000 interface. So, given a standard HD controller, (Z-217) what cabling mods are needed to make it fly? Obviously "Shugart Associates" is not going to respond to my pleas for documents. I would greatly appreciate any and all documents pertaining to the particulars of this drive. I have the Shugart brochure with the whole SA family from SA-801 to SA-1008, with the most advanced drive being the SA-850. It's OLD! But I know what I have, I just don't know how to make it work. It came from a Xerox 820-II disk enclosure. Also, is there something I can do to the SA-851 to make it believe it is double-sided? Works fine with SSSD, but won't format DSDD. My controller (Z-207) won't even talk to a single-sided drive, but it talks to this one, so something fishy is going on. Many Many Many Thanks for any response other than sorry...
